DAKOTA READY FOR ACTION by aviation artist Richard Taylor On 6th June 1944, adorned with hastily painted invasion stripes, over 800 U.S. Army Air Force C-47s and Royal Air Force Dakotas carried paratroopers to their drop zones in Normandy. Around 13,100 American paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions made night parachute drops early on D-Day.
