Description

Early Original 1/4 Plate Antique Daguerreotype Photo, 3 Young Siblings Holding Things, Taken c.1848 DESCRIPTION: Nice early antique cased daguerreotype image taken during the early days of popular daguerreotype photography, c1848. I apologize for the reflected light/camera in my scans, obviously not part of the actual photo itself, which is clear and particularly high quality. THIS ONE IS PARTICULARLY NICE. Subject is 3 young children, obviously siblings. Mounted in a nice, simple, early brass mat, the type used only up to about 1850. Specifically, this looks c1848 based on the distinctive case and pad design. It also has a very simple studio backdrop, etc. It also has a primitive look overall compared to later dags, again confirming its early age. NICE RED VELVET PAD. This dag has great, early mid-1800's subject matter. Nice seated antebellum pose and appearance. 1/4 plate size, PARTICULARLY SCARCE, set in its original leather case. Has both sides of the case, although hinge is split as often happens with age. STILL, IT REMAINS IN THE ORIGINAL NICE CASE THAT THE PHOTO HAS BEEN IN FOR 180+ LONG YEARS!!! THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING, GREAT EARLY EARLY DAG, ALMOST 200 YEARS OLD!! AND VERY UNUSUAL, NICE SUBJECT MATTER. Probably very special to the family and their first picture together. They probably got the luxury of a 1/4 plate because it was so special. Very nice period clothes and print dresses. It appears that the oldest girl is holding a rolled up piece of paper (school diploma?) and the boy seems to be holding a small toy. THIS IS A VERY SPECIAL EARLY DAG!! Please see my auction list for other framed antique photos, both ambrotypes and daguerreotypes, many identified and many in gorgeous fancy frames!! PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!!
